- Here's a stark truth about accomplishing your goals. If you don't have enough time, they won't get done. You have to guard your time fiercely so you can put it toward the projects and the initiatives that matter most to you. But it's not always easy because so many people come at us with requests and we don't want to disappoint them. Even worse, because we're human, sometimes we waste our own time. So here are three things we can do to regain our time and our focus. First, set up systems to guard your time. If you work inside an organization, you'll want to talk with your manager about this to find a structure that works for you and for the team. Possibilities might be things like reserving the first hour or two of the morning for deep work, where you're focusing on an important project, rather than answering emails or maybe No Meeting Mondays where no one on your team schedules any meetings.
