- Some things are clearly priorities, the do this or you'll get fired kind of things. But most of what we spend our time on each day is a bit less obvious. There are tons of things we could be doing, but what's the most effective way to spend our time? Here are three frameworks you can use to evaluate and make smarter decisions. The first is known as the Eisenhower Matrix because it was popularized by the former US President, and later in Stephen Covey's popular book, "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People." It's a two by two grid that ranks how important and how urgent something is. We can probably all agree if something is both urgent and important, do it right now. If there's a data breach, let's say, and all your company's information is being exposed on the internet, you'd want to fix that immediately, urgent and important.
