How to prompt for deep research
- The last couple of years of AI development has been a frantic race for companies to outdo each other. Initially, companies try to make their AI tools increasingly powerful by training them on larger and larger datasets. But after a while, when they'd ingested most of the world's knowledge, the gains started to drop off and the price of training became astronomical. So they needed a new approach if they wanted to keep outdoing each other. This new approach was getting the AI tools to spend more time working with the information before they responded. We'll call this deep thinking. Instead of just responding immediately from their training data, the AI tools spend more time thinking about their answers. In most cases, this processing is combined with web search, so the deep thinking becomes deep research.
