- Blogs have been around for as long as the web itself. The word blog is a short form of weblog and they've grown along with the internet. Blogs originated as rudimentary online diaries or journals, and the style has evolved to include sophisticated online magazines with multiple authors. A blog is similar to a webpage, but instead of having static content that's only occasionally updated, a blog has modular content or diary entry-like posts displayed in reverse chronological order, so the most recent post is first. A blog can constitute an entire website on its own, or it can be a section of a larger site, such as an informational, portfolio, or e-commerce website. In this example, a blog is just one part of the overall site. In fact, there are many blogs on websites that aren't even called blog.
