Using typography to navigate content

Navigation is how we get from one place to the next, in other words, how we follow directions. On web pages, we expect to see the navigation bar, or nav bar for short, near the top of almost every home page. As a designer, your goal is to help your viewer navigate your projects, whether they're print-based or screen-based. Using your design skills, you can provide reassurance and comfort to your viewer to make the intended pathway as clear as possible. Typography lends itself beautifully to providing direction for the viewer. Type is a perfect navigational tool because it is naturally sequential. We have an alphabet that's sequential. We have numbers that are sequential. Simple navigation with typography might be as basic as a series of numbers or a series of letters. Other visual clues might be links like about, read, or contact, or directions using words like tap, rotate, or press. Arrows and pointers are also effective as directional typographic devices.
