In just a few years, they've moved from cutting edge research to everyday tools, helping us write, code, learn, and communicate more efficiently. Today, nearly every major tech company and many reaches labs maintain one or more LLMs. These include OpenAI's GPT models that power ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, formerly known as Bard, Meta's Llama, Anthropic's Claude, Cohere's Command, Mistral, NVIDIA's NeMo, and open models like BLOOM and Falcon. So what exactly is a large language model? A large language model is a generative AI system designed to understand, predict, and produce human-like text.
