What is a drone?
So as we start this new chapter, let's have a little think about what is a drone? A drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV for short, but they are more commonly known as a drone. Now, drones have a lot of highly recreational uses. So you can get a drone for Christmas and fly it around on holiday and get fantastic videos and photography of the beach you might be on. But they also have a much more impactful commercial use as well. A drone is an aircraft without any human pilot, crew, or passengers, and they were originally developed for military use. They're controlled remotely using a controller or a first-person headset. And as control technologies have improved and costs have fallen, their use has expanded to a lot of different areas commercially. Now we are going to touch on aerial photography in this particular course, but also we can look at things like area coverage, precision agriculture, forest fire monitoring, river monitoring, infrastructure inspections, inspecting…
