Now that you understand what GIS is and its strengths, I hope I've gotten you thinking about how to integrate GIS into your daily tasks and thinking about how geospatial technologies can help you pull more out of your data by adding that spatial component. It's easy to get started with GIS. If you're looking for where to start, I suggest taking a look at ArcGIS. If you'd like to give it a try, you can go to arcgis.com and get a free public account to explore other people's maps and even create your own GIS maps. There's lots of free data to get started with. There's also an ArcGIS home use license, which gives you both web GIS and desktop software. It's available for a small annual fee.
