Scaling
Simplifying large numbers into more manageable and understandable values enables easier interpretation and comparison of data. In this video, we'll create custom number formats that automatically scale to thousands, millions, billions, etcetera. The numbers in this table have already been rounded to thousands, but this is the wrong way to do it because they no longer represent their actual values, which means any calculations you perform on them may need to be adjusted. I'll use space special to convert them back. So just in an empty cell, I've typed in 1000. Select the cells and then paste "special". Here I want values and multiply. And let's repeat that for the remaining values that need to be scaled back. I don't need this thousand anymore, so I'll just delete it. Now, earlier, we looked at hiding the decimals on values greater than or equal to 1,000. Equally, when you have values in the millions or billions, the thousands become immaterial and so on.
