- [Instructor] The most common chart type for many Excel users is a Column Chart. Also, Bar Charts are pretty common and think of them actually as Column Charts that have simply been rotated 90 degrees. Let's again be clear on our terminology. Even though you often hear a vertical Column Chart, like we're seeing on the green chart, referred to as a Bar Chart in Excel, it's a Column Chart. Columns in a building are vertical, think of it that way. In the examples here, these four charts are all based on the same data off to the right over in columns Q-V. And the question comes up at times which chart is best? And we can argue back and forth about this one or that one, we could change the colors, make this one look a little different and so on. Often it's just a question of taste. Column Charts tend to be more widely used. And I think in the examples here, the column versions of the data are more readable.
