Build a formula in a cell with =

- [Narrator] A function is a built-in Excel calculation that you initiate by calling with a formula. Type an equal sign into the cell. This lets Excel know that you're building a formula. Reference a different cell by clicking on it with your mouse, or you can also just type the location in directly. You can perform calculations with additional operators or functions. Hit the Enter key to calculate your formula. To use a built-in Excel function, put parentheses around the beginning and the end. The colon tells Excel to include all the cells between the start and endpoints. I'll close my parentheses and hit Enter. You can also drag with the mouse to select the cells that are near each other. This formula adds these values. These are the most important building blocks to start building formulas in Excel.
