Solution: Road sign and chess player
- Welcome back. Now, how are you feeling after those two challenges? I love both of these because they're so wildly different and yet, they both can be so visually cool. All right, so let's look at the solutions. Challenge one, inpainting. Now, to quickly recap, our goal was to create a vintage Route 66 sign set in the middle of nowhere and use inpainting to correct any of the text errors along the way. And I gave you the prompt and a few keywords to try. So, how'd you do? Well, here's how I tackled this one. I made no change to the prompt and used "gas" as my subject. And here were the four results. Which is funny, because Dall-E was literally 0 for 4 on spelling gas properly. That said, I like this one on the bottom right. So I'll start here. Now, it's mostly right. I just need to fix this AI element in the center. Using my eraser brush, I selected the area, and in the prompt, I'm only going to type "A." Literally, nothing more. Just "A." And here are my four results. Notice, Dall-E got two of the four correct with an "A." And that's about normal when doing a single letter. But if you want to do more than a single letter at a time, just know that you're going to need multiple attempts. It's going to make more errors. But this one here on the lower left, that one looks pretty good. Yeah, actually not bad, but let's keep the fun going. And here you can see I went for a few more words. Now, I also liked this sign, and it offered a little more challenge because it wasn't just a simple "A" swap. With this one, required a few more letters to move around in order to get "gas" spaced properly. And here's how I solved it with inpainting, again, along with playing around with a few other words. The key to remember when changing letters it's not a guarantee, just keep your prompts simple, entering only the letter you need, and be ready to play the Dall-E slot machine a few times until you get it a hundred percent correct. Okay, now for the next challenge, our test of photorealism. I asked you to create a photo of a serious chess player, visually dramatic and almost cinematic in mood. And this was my example here on the right. So, did you match the quality? All right, so I promised you that I would reveal my prompt, so here goes. "A wise older man with a serious expression playing chess, the man is in focus and looks at the camera intently, there's depth of field, muted colors, shot on 35 millimeter film and a movie scene." And here were the four generations that resulted. All four I thought were actually quite good. I mean, each nailed that cinematic mood I was hoping for and the ultra serious vibe in our chess player. I mean, look at the one on the lower right, he's serious. However, I was curious. As a big fan of "Queen's Gambit," I wanted to see how this prompt would also handle a female as our vocal point and also adjusting the period to the late '60s. So I modified the prompt, as you can see here, a stylish woman from the 1960s. And here are the results. I love this. I mean, the retro vintage vibes. I mean, it's so very cool. So in closing, I encourage you to continue to experiment with these prompts. You know, change the game, maybe from chess to cooking. See how that holds up. I mean, that's the beauty of Dall-E. The results of each of these tests, you give it, the visual solutions are mere seconds away. So push it, you know, let your creativity run wild. In the next chapter, we'll discuss some of the other AI tools and some of the ethical issues every artist should consider.
