- Recently at my organization, I took a larger role in coordinating professional development for a new group of managers. Many of these managers were new to their role and new to the team. They needed time together to grow cross-functional relationships. And we needed to scaffold in some professional development. When thinking through options that could hit both targets. I turned to an option from my higher education toolbox. We picked a book and we studied it together. Starting a book club is not a new idea. Lots of companies use book clubs for professional development or to stimulate creative thinking or to cross pollinate personnel.
