- At the Santa Barbara Zoo, one of our core values is fun. We call it our prime directive. And as you think about establishing systems that support creating a great company culture, don't overlook ways that fun recreation with colleagues can support relationship building, trust, and improve morale. If you want to create a great company culture, schedule play dates for your team. It seems like the tech world has really nailed the leisure meets work atmosphere, with office ping pong and foosball, kombucha or beer on tap, and community lunches. Scheduling play dates looks a lot like this and more. At the Santa Barbara Zoo, we try to create intentional opportunities for leisure together. We plan periodic 5:05 happy hour parties, 9:05 yogurt parfait parties, and 3:05 ice cream sundae parties.
