Exercise: Voice extremes

- For this exercise in order to practice voice, we are going to take each of the five components of voice, which are syntax, word choice, level of description, tone, and emotion, and go extreme with them. So you can start to see how each of these components affects the style of the writing and the character whose voice is represented. The full details of this exercise are written out in the handout called voice extremes. I'll introduce the concept here, and then you can refer to your handout for the rest of the instructions. Here's how the exercise works. For each of the five components of voice, we'll give you a prompt and two extremes. You'll create a new voice for the same prompt twice, one for each of the two extremes. For example, let's say the prompt for the syntax component, is a character who wants to end a relationship and the two extremes are, very short sentences and very long complex sentences.
