How to combine these techniques

In this section of the course, we've covered what I call the three ingredients for successful conversations; rapport, tension, and escalation. And at this point in my live seminars and workshops, people tend to start wondering how to put them all together. And I get questions about what to do, when, how much, and for how long. It's important that you keep in mind that this is not a step by step, "A comes after B" type of thing. And it's not even always clear whether we're building rapport or creating tension, since we'll sometimes stumble upon topics that create positive tension in our rapport building and build more rapport when we, for example, laugh together because of someone's playfulness. But please don't let this confuse or frustrate you, because the fact that the lines are blurred and that there's no one-size-fits-all recipe, actually makes all of these things easier, not harder, to get good at.
