- Knowing how to install and troubleshoot a power supply is an essential skill for any PC technician. Well, it's usually pretty straightforward. There are some important things to watch out for, especially since we're dealing with live power. So let's walk through installing and troubleshooting a PSU together. First, let's start with a non modular PSU. It's called a non modular PSU because the cables are pre-attached. You'll see there is a dedicated area in the case for our PSU to fit into. Now, important safety reminder. Always make sure that the PSU is unplugged from AC power before you handle it. This is especially important with ATX power supplies. It's recommended you wait 20 to 30 minutes after unplugging an ATX power supply because they can still hold a charge after you unplug them. Take a look at the connector ports on the PSU.
