- [Instructor] In this video, you will explore extreme values, including minimum and maximum values. Before you dive into finding these values with derivatives, let's take a moment to learn some key facts about extreme values also known as extremum. Let's take a moment to look at a graph to visually see extreme values. If you look at the graph, you'll notice there are multiple peaks and valleys. These are what are called extreme values. so if you look around x equals negative two, you'll see there is a high point that is somewhere between the values of y equals three and four. That is going to be a maximum value because it is a peak. Then if you look at x equals approximately negative 0.5, you'll see there is a valley that is a little bit below y equals negative one. That is what is called a minimum value. So as you could tell with this graph, you have multiple peaks, which are different maximum values and multiple valleys, which are minimum values.
