- [Instructor] In the last few chapters, you learn what an integral is, and how to calculate it. But you may be wondering, what is a higher order integral? Let's dive into a definition of exactly what higher order integrals are. A higher order integral is when you take the integral of a function, multiple times. So instead of just integrating a function once, you may integrate that original function, then integrate the result of that first integral, and then repeat that as many times as needed. Let's start off by exploring double integrals. A double integral is when you take an integral two times in succession. Essentially, it is doing the same thing twice. It is notated by two integral signs next to each other. One thing to note is usually when you do a double integral, you'll usually have two different variables, you are integrating on, such as X and Y within your integral.
