Necessary skills, tools, and processes
- So what skills do you need to be a good cloud computing architect and make good design decisions? Let's look at a few. Cloud computing architects should have an advanced knowledge of cloud technologies, including what they do and how they work. A mandatory skillset is advanced knowledge of common cloud-based resources, such as storage, computing, database, security, et cetera. However, it's not expected that you understand every detail about how each separate resource works. General knowledge is the most helpful, but knowing some specific features and being willing to learn as you go is also very beneficial. So while you may understand the fundamental differences between object storage on AWS, Google and Microsoft, you may not be able to compare each at a detailed level, such as APIs. That's okay. Also, it's helpful to understand technologies you're likely to consider leveraging within your architecture, such as serverless containers, Kubernetes, microservices, no code, low code…
