- In this video let's consider Cisco Discovery Protocol or CDP. Cisco Discovery Protocol is a layer two protocol that came out back in 1994, and it's going to allow us to be on one Cisco device, like a switch or a router and see other Cisco devices that are adjacent to us. And when I say adjacent, I mean layer two adjacent. In fact, we don't even have to have an IP address on that adjacent device to see it. And we're going to get a variety of information about those adjacent Cisco devices. And the collection of information that we receive via CDP is called TLVs type, length, values. For example, if I'm on switch SW1 on screen and I give a command that says, Show me all of my CDP speaking neighbors it's going to tell me about the IP phone and it's going to tell me about router R1. It will show me the device IDs of those devices. It will show me an IP address if they have that IP address, but that's not required. It's going…
