IP version 6 (IPv6) addressing
(electronic music) - [Instructor] You're going to be learning about IP version 6 addressing in this module. We know that an IP version 4 address is made up of 32 binary bits, and, as an example, that address in binary might look something like this. But the bad news with IP version 4 addressing is we are out. We're having to rely on things like private IP address space and network address translation, but the good news is IP version 6 comes to the rescue, and I promise you we will never, in our lifetimes anyway, run out of IP version 6 addressing. How can I be so confident about that? Well, IP version 6 is a 128-bit address, and that means roughly for every person on the planet, they can have more than three times 10 to the 28th power. They can have that many IPv6 addresses just for them, and that's why I can be fairly confident that we're not going to run out of IPv6 addresses. The challenge with this though is 128 bits.
