IP version 4 (IPv4) addressing
(bright subtle music) - [Instructor] In this module, we want to consider IP version 4 Addressing, and I would like you to think of an IP version 4 address as being somewhat analogous to the address of a home. Let's say that all of these homes are on Main Street, but their address is more than just Main Street, they each have their own individual house numbers. We might have 101 Main Street, 103 Main Street, 105, 107 Main Street. The point is, there are two pieces to their address. There is the street on which they all reside, that's in common, and they have their own individual house numbers, those are unique. When we're identifying devices on a network with an IP version 4 address, it's very similar. A portion of the address is going to be the network on which multiple devices can reside, and another portion of that address is going to refer to the host on that network. We've got a network portion and a host portion, and we'll learn in this module how to look at an IP version 4…
