Trunking modes

Trunking modes

(bright music) - [Instructor] Let's imagine that we have these two switches interconnected with a link, and we want to form a trunk between the switches. And before we get into the configuration, I wanted to share with you some different trunking modes that we can use to configure the switch ports. And here they are as a reference for you. We've got these four modes. Access, trunk, dynamic desirable, and dynamic auto. And if we tell a port that you are an access port, then it is not going to form a trunk. It's just going to be an access port, which usually means that it's going to be participating in a single VLAN. And I say usually because there is an exception with voice VLANs. If you have a voice VLAN, you can have two VLANs on an access port, one for data, one for voice. But for our purposes, we're going to be saying that an access port is associated with one and only one VLAN. And if we tell a port that you are a trunk port, that means it's a trunk port. It really doesn't matter…
