- In many places in the world today, difficulty accessing quality, trustworthy information on land assets, such as properties, and who owns them is a serious impediment to rights and economic development. It's estimated that around $9.3 trillion in global land assets are undetermined because of inadequate processes to prove ownership. Unfortunately, land registries are often subject to corruption and many properties have conflicting claims. In some communities, property information captured and stored on paper has not been converted to digital. This creates enormous risk. For example, in 2010, the devastating earthquake in Haiti that left 1.5 million people homeless also destroyed 60 years of paper-based land registry information.
