- I have a client who provides cloud services and there were some reports of poor performance in certain regions, and the media was asking for comment. The CEO asked the CTO for data to allow her to confirm or deny the reports. It was excruciating for the CTO to have to tell her that he had yet to include the instrumentation to provide that data. This oversight left the CEO and the company in an awful bind. You can't manage what you can't see and you can't improve it either. Working on the optimal set of improvements starts with getting a sufficient view into what could be improved.
