We first calculate the cost of waiting on each deliverable in our backlog, or in agile, it is known as calculating the cost of delay. We then apply the level of effort to deliver the work to ensure we are working on the items that would create higher value if they were delivered sooner. When I was a member of a development team tasked with delivery of the company's first mobile application, using WSJF made it possible. In our retrospective, we discovered that not all small items are equal in value delivery, and some can wait longer than others to be delivered. We also noticed that there were other items that happened to be time sensitive, and it costs us time and value if we…
