Hillshades and slopes
Performing hillshade analysis and slope analysis on a digital terrain model or digital elevation model, is a great way to render your landscape in 2D so that you can understand what is actually going on. Let's try that now. If we go into our raster analysis and we bring in our NANAIMO_DEM file, there it is. I'm going to alter it slightly. So I'm going to double-click on the NANAIMO_DEM and change the color gradient from white to black and hit OK. So there's our context. I might also go in there and change it from Singleband Grey to Pseudocolor, and maybe change the classification to Linear. And there's all the different colors right there with a color ramp of blue. Oh, one thing I want to change is make sure that the lowest elevation is transparent. So I pick on the zero and change that to zero opacity.
