Course structure and outline
(gentle upbeat music) - [John] Hey, everyone. John Pauler here, and welcome to Advanced SQL Database Administration with MySQL Workbench. If you're looking to develop practical, real-world analytics and BI skills and learn how to create and maintain databases, then you've come to the right place. Now, this course is unlike anything you've ever seen before, guaranteed. Instead of using random sample data and disconnected demos, we'll be working with a rich, custom-built e-commerce data set designed from scratch, which will help you apply your skills to a continuous ongoing project and will teach you how to truly think like a database administrator. You'll be playing the role of the database administrator for the newly launched e-commerce startup, Maven Bear Builders. As the lead DBA at the firm, you'll work with the CEO and other business leaders to help the business create, maintain, and optimize their database as the company grows. We'll start by introducing the course project, installing the tools we'll need to create and maintain our database, and reviewing the core SQL skills that you should be comfortable with before starting this advanced level course, including CRUD statements, SQL data types, and the basics of database design. From there, we'll jump right into the main course project, where you'll go much deeper on many of the core skills taught in our Database Administration for Beginner's Course, and learn new advanced-level concepts, like replication, backup and recovery, and protecting the security of your database. For each topic, we'll introduce the concept, review the SQL tools that we'll be applying, and then jump straight into hands-on exercises and course projects. We've got a lot to cover, so let's get started. (gentle upbeat music) (gentle upbeat music fades)
