How to navigate emotional reasoning
- Emotional reasoning. How does that even work? Well, it's what's known as a cognitive distortion in which we might rely primarily on our emotions to interpret reality or make judgements rather than relying on objective evidence or rational thinking. In other words, emotional reasoning occurs when we believe that our emotions accurately reflect the truth, regardless of whether or not there is evidence to support those feelings. Now, while emotions are a really important aspect of human experience, and they can provide valuable insights into our needs and our values, relying solely on emotions to interpret reality can be problematic. It's important to balance emotions with critical thinking and objective evidence in order to make well-informed decisions and maintain mental wellbeing.
