But that era is over. 5G breaks these chains by introducing a revolutionary model of flexibility, which empowers innovation where every network resource can be dynamically orchestrated precisely when and where it is needed. Now, this transformation begin at a very edge from the radio access network. In the world of 5G new radio, we still have the radio unit at the cell tower, but now we split the baseband unit into two powerful components. One is the distributed unit, which is responsible for real-time, latency-sensitive operations. The another is central unit, which is handling non-real-time, high-layer functions.
