Extruding along a path with the Sweep modifier
- Another very common situation in spline modeling is that you want to extrude some profile or section curve along a path in order to create a shape such as maybe a railing, or in this case, a frame or wall ornament. And the easiest way to accomplish that is using the sweep modifier. To use sweep, you will at least need a path, something to sweep along. And in this case it's going to be this diamond shape, this square that's been rotated 45 degrees. I'm going to select that. Go over to the modify panel. It's an editable spline, but it could be anything. Could be a standard shape primitive. This editable spline is two dimensional. We can see that if we orbit around, Alt + Middle Mouse, it's perfectly flat, but it could be three dimensional and it could have some super complex shape. This is the path, and we're going to apply a section or a profile curve along that path with the sweep modifier.
