How LinkedIn uses your job application information

How LinkedIn uses your data when you apply to Jobs

When you apply to jobs, in addition to information that you include with your application (such as resumes, cover letters, answers to screening questions, or contact information), we will include the primary email address associated with your LinkedIn account and your full LinkedIn profile.

Saving job application information

You can save certain information you enter when you apply for a job on LinkedIn, and use it as default information for future job applications from the Job application settings page. This will allow you to apply for jobs more quickly. Your saved answers and resumes are not automatically shared with employers – you are able to edit before you submit your application.

You can save the following information:

  • Answers to screening questions: We will pre-fill answers to screening questions that you have previously answered. For example, do you have a particular level of education or are you willing to work remote.
  • Resumes: We’ll pre-select your most recently used resume. You can save up to 4 resumes.

You can opt-out of saving job application data in your settings. We may use your answers to screening questions (with identifying information removed) and resumes for product improvement, including the training and improvement of generative AI models. Learn more about how we use resumes.

Saving voluntary self-identification demographic information from job applications in the United States

When you apply to a job on LinkedIn, the hiring company may ask that you voluntarily submit self-identification demographic information to fulfill certain government requirements in the United States (ex. EEOC and OFCCP requirements). After you submit an application that includes this information, we give you the option to save it. If you choose to have LinkedIn save this information, this data may be used:

  • For future job applications: You can complete your applications faster by pre-filling these fields in future applications.
  • For aggregated insights and product improvements: LinkedIn will combine your data with other members’ information to generate aggregate insights, such as workforce and hiring trends. We may use these aggregate insights to improve our products, including by understanding bias in our products.

Your saved self-identification demographic data won’t be shown on your profile or disclosed to others on LinkedIn (except when you choose to include it with a job application). It won’t be used for advertising, personalizing your LinkedIn experience, or recommending jobs or other content. Outside of job application self-identification demographic data, we separately collect similar information as personal demographic information, which may be collected and used in different ways. Learn more about our collection and use of personal demographic data.
