🚨 Buckeye’s $350M Airport Plan Could Reshape the West Valley The city is advancing a 20-year master plan for Buckeye Municipal Airport. Here’s what’s on deck: • Rebuild and upgrade the existing 5,500’ runway and Taxiway A with new electrical and nav systems (FAA/ADOT grants approved Sept. 16, 2025). • Add a modern control tower and plan for longer runway options that enable cargo and, eventually, commercial flights. • Phased build to match surging West Valley industry—data centers, advanced manufacturing, logistics. Why it matters: construction and permanent jobs, faster freight, and a boost to nearby home values and commercial demand as the airport scales with growth. Could this be the West Valley’s version of Mesa Gateway … or bigger? 👉 Stay in the know about Valley news & developments! ✈️ October Spotlight: Airport Megaprojects Reshaping U.S. Aviation As we enter Q4 2025, the U.S. airport construction landscape is booming with transformative projects that redefine scale, sustainability, and passenger experience. 🔹 Charlotte Douglas International Airport just completed its $608M Terminal Lobby Expansion, adding 175,000 sq ft of new space and renovating another 191,000 sq ft. With expanded TSA checkpoints, pedestrian bridges, and public art, CLT now supports over 58.8 million travelers annually—up from 2.8 million in 1982. https://lnkd.in/ebAfmqRg 🔹 The FAA’s Q3-2025 Impact Report highlights runway and taxiway upgrades across JFK, LAX, ATL, and more. Projects like RWY 27 RSA rehabilitation and LED lighting upgrades are underway to boost safety and reduce delays. https://lnkd.in/ePD2UsNY These projects aren’t just upgrades—they’re strategic investments in resilience, capacity, and innovation. #AirportLeadership #InfrastructureBoom #SmartConstruction #AviationMegaprojects #ExecutiveProjectManagement

Big news: Vancouver Airport Authority is joining the Deep Turnaround ecosystem. It means one of the busiest airports in Canada is getting grip on one of the toughest parts of aviation: the turnaround. Together we’re cutting the uncertainty out of airport turnarounds (e.g. fueling, baggage, boarding, cleaning, etc.) by plugging Deep Turnaround into YVR’s Digital Twin. The result? Fewer delays. More on-time flights. A smoother trip for passengers. Stay tuned! 🔔

Airports are at a crossroads. Many are operating with aging terminals and limited capacity, all while trying to meet record travel demand and rising passenger expectations. I recently had the opportunity to share insights with Aviation Pros on how McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is helping airport leaders navigate these challenges. One of the many challenges we discussed is the growing complexity of airport projects and how it’s impacting the evolution from traditional “hard bid” processes to more flexible delivery methods like design-build and construction manager at risk. For staff who have never managed a multimillion-dollar aviation project before, alternative delivery methods provide the collaborative means to adapt during the process, control costs and reduce disruption. I’m curious to hear other thoughts. What are the major construction delivery modernization needs you’re observing in today’s airports? Santa Monica Airport is set to close by December 31, 2028, following a 2017 consent decree between the City of Santa Monica and the FAA. Despite JSX's interest in launching charter services using environmentally friendly turboprop aircraft, the city remains firm that no aviation operations will continue past the closure date. This decision concludes decades of legal and community debates balancing federal aviation law, local health concerns, and urban development priorities. The airport's rich aviation history includes its role in early commercial flight and aircraft manufacturing during World War II. However, environmental and health studies have highlighted significant risks from airport operations, particularly air pollution and noise impacts on nearby residents and schools. The city plans to transform the 227-acre site into a "Great Park," focusing on ecological restoration, recreation, and public open space, guided by Measure LC passed in 2014. Economic implications include a shift from airport-generated revenue to broader municipal use, supporting phased park development. While opposition exists, the project exemplifies a complex but strategic urban redevelopment effort that prioritizes community well-being and sustainability. #SantaMonica #JSXAir #UrbanDevelopment Read more: https://lnkd.in/ep5yifaf

✈️ 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀: 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗮 𝗡𝗭 ✈️ New Zealand’s airports are more than just travel hubs - they’re essential to our social and economic infrastructure. At Road Science, we’re proud to support this backbone of connectivity and safety. Next week marks the NZ Airports Hui in Blenheim, the premier gathering for airport professionals and industry partners. Our mates at Downer are proud sponsors, with a team presenting on key topics - and if you’re attending, you might spot Road Science innovations featured in presentations and on display. Here’s an overview of some of our tech making a difference across New Zealand airfields: 🔹 𝗣𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘀𝘂𝘀 – High-speed, high-accuracy mobile data capture for runway surveying. Laser scanning enables early detection of damage, supporting proactive maintenance and minimising disruptions. 🔹 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗞𝟮 – Precision surface friction testing for runways, taxiways, and aprons. Real-time data helps identify low grip zones and supports safer, more efficient operations. 🔹 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 – A high-performance surface treatment that extends the life of aging asphalt and chip seal surfaces - ideal for runways when full replacement isn’t feasible. 🔹 𝗘𝗠𝗘𝟮 – A high-modulus asphalt designed for stronger, thinner, longer-lasting pavements. Perfect for high-stress environments like airfields. We’re proud to be part of the ecosystem that keeps New Zealand’s airports safe, efficient, and future-ready.
