Internships can be a game-changer on your resume. They offer students hands-on experience and networking opportunities that often open the door to that first job. New LinkedIn data shows that class of 2023 grads who held internships were nearly 30% more likely to start a full-time position within six months of graduation than their classmates who didn't. And where you study can play a big role in connecting you to those opportunities. Some schools have stronger employer pipelines, career centers that prioritize internship programs or alumni networks that help students secure valuable experience. Take Massachusetts Institute of Technology — which has the highest share of recent grads who completed internships during their degree, according to LinkedIn data. I’ve always valued American University for its unmatched internship opportunities in the heart of Washington, D.C. During my time there, I secured an internship at the U.S. Department of Education, where I contributed to the Education Blueprint Reform. That experience became a launching pad—ultimately leading me to a role in cybersecurity at the U.S. House of Representatives. Now, as I continue my career journey, I’m actively job hunting and plan to leverage the support of American University’s Career Center to further pursue my passion for politics and public policy.

Where is Northeastern University? 95% of undergraduate students participate in at least one co-operative program at a company (essentially an internship), with many doing several.
