WestCap's 2025 CTO Summit Recap – The Year of FOMO Driving Collaboration Engineering leaders from across our portfolio gathered in NYC for the annual WestCap CTO Summit. As the world reckons with the ever-shifting AI landscape and we see a fear of missing out (FOMO) drive operational decisions, we are cutting through the noise to what really drives value creation with AI. Our portfolio companies shared state-of-the-art agentic development practices, strategies for adoption, and planned for bringing their respective engineering teams together to stay ahead of the AI curve together. We're proud to be the capital that works to keep our portfolio at the forefront of innovation. Key themes discussed: 1. We are in an AI bubble with low certainty on when it will pop. 2. Agentic code development is the most impactful use of AI agents today. 3. Investors largely have a low level of AI understanding and cannot discriminate what is true innovation in a sea of AI startups. 4. Many decisions are driven by FOMO and unrealistic expectations of autonomous work. 5. It's crucial that engineering teams focus on efficiency from agentic coding and not overlook AI-powered human devs in search of completely autonomous workflows. What an incredible gathering! With 60 security leaders in attendance, the WestCap Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Summit brought together the best minds in security & risk. Hosted by WestCap’s CISO Andrew Cal, the event was filled with high energy, insightful conversations, and numerous key highlights, including: - Establishing the WestCap Security Standard: The group developed and agreed upon a unified security standard, marking a significant milestone for the community. - Dynamic discussions were had on AI security, secure AI code development, and how to respond to AI attacks - In-depth discussion about the intersection of AI security and board governance, emphasizing the importance of executive engagement. At NYC Customer Success Week, WestCap's Michael Edelstein partnered with Kelly Schwartz of WRITER to deliver a session on evolving Customer Success. Leaders today are left redefining a role for the age of AI that was never consistently defined in the first place. Attendees were inspired to think about the impact of the Customer Success Manager on the entire customer journey, not just post-sale customer needs.
