It’s striking to look back at the AI governance summary I wrote a year ago and see how the structural dynamics remain exactly where I predicted they would. Despite the rapid evolution of models, capabilities, and market actors, the architecture hasn’t changed. The three forces I highlighted then still define the global AI landscape today: 1️⃣ National Security — AI as a strategic asset shaping defense posture, supply chain resilience, and geopolitical leverage. 2️⃣ Geopolitics — The continued divergence of China’s state-driven approach, America’s market-driven model, and the EU’s rights-driven framework — with U.S.–EU alignment tightening. 3️⃣ Sustainable Development — AI as a catalyst for inclusive growth, infrastructure modernization, and public-private collaboration. A year later, the velocity of innovation is faster — but the underlying structure is the same. That’s the part most people miss: tech evolves quickly; power systems evolve slowly. It’s a reminder that when you analyze AI through first principles and the incentives of nations, not hype cycles, the long-term picture becomes much clearer. Thanks to Dr. Dennis Ong and the Penn’s Precise Center for AI Safety for the opportunity to learn how to think about AI responsibly.
