  • On November 20 — Transgender Day of Remembrance, we pause. We mourn. We uplift. We remember. This year, Advocates for Trans Equality released a report documenting that 58 trans and gender non-conforming lives were lost . 27 of those deaths were violent. 21 were by suicide. We carry their names. We carry their stories. Their lives mattered. Their existence made this world a better place. Ajani Walden Amyri Dior, 23 Apollo Moon, 26 Arty Cassidy Beowulf Gibson, 23 Aubrey Dameron, 25 Aziza “Z” Barnes, 31 Bianca “Jiggly Caliente” Castro-Arabejo, 44 Blair Sawyer, 27 Cam Thompson, 18 Charlotte Fosgate, 17 Christina Hayes, 28 Deniz Chucker Dream Johnson, 28 Eli Stablein, 49 Elisa Rae Shupe, 61 Emma Slabach, 24 Ervianna Johnson, 25 Gabrielle “Cam” Nguyen, 21 Hope Lyca Youngblood, 49 Jax Gratton, 34 Jay Floris, 23 Jill Heathers Bouvier, 54 JJ Godbey, 26 Kaitoria Bankz, 31 Kamora Woods, 27 Karmin Wells, 25 Kasi Rhea, 31 Katelyn Rinnetta Benoit, 15 Kelsey Elem, 25 Kyla Jane Walker, 39 Lady Java, 82 Laura Schueler, 47 Leah Jo, 37 Lia Smith, 21 Lily-Dawn Harkins, 22 Linda Becerra Moran, 30 Luisa Rivera, 68 Megan Jordan Kridli, 22 Meka Shabazz, 46 Michele Kaemmerer, 80 Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, 78 Norah Horwitz, 38 Onyx Cornish, 18 Parker Savarese, 15 Phoenix Cassetta Quanesha “Cocoa” Shantel, 26 Raven Syed Ra’lasia Wright, 25 Rick Alastor Newman, 29 Rosa Machuca, 24 Roy Mora, 15 Sam Nordquist, 24 Shy'Parius Dupree, 32 Sonny Hopkins, 39 Sydney “Syd” Leigh Phillips, 22 Tahiry Broom, 29 Tessa June, 21 Tiara Love “Tori” Jackson, 37 Zara Weinberg, 36 And we know that, sadly, a number of names are likely missing from this list. But even as their names and stories haven’t been documented, they will never be forgotten. We mourn these loses, and recommit ourselves, today and every day, to keep fighting for a world where no one’s life is taken simply for being who they are. Say their names. Hold their memory. Demand change. #TransDayofRemembrance #TDOR #TransLivesMatter

  • “Transgender people are not boogeymen; we’re just people. We live in every single state and community in the country – in big cities and small towns. We have families of our own that we are trying to take care of, especially in our current and often chaotic times. We are flesh and blood people who get up in the morning and go to work just like you. We’re your friends, your families, and your neighbors.” In honor of Transgender Awareness Week, The Trevor Project’s new Senior Vice President of Public Engagement Campaigns, Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen, wrote an article for @Newsweek that shares his own story of coming out as trans, and urges people across the U.S. to get familiar with transgender people, not just the transgender politics they read about in the news. Read Rodrigo’s powerful piece, and join us in sharing and uplifting stories from trans people this week and every week. 🏳️⚧️ https://lnkd.in/eN8XiGGG #TransAwarenessWeek

  • Good news: Marriage is still the law of the land 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ The Supreme Court refused to hear a case that sought to challenge the freedom to marry for LGBTQ+ folks in the U.S., reaffirming that marriage equality is our right. This is a win that we deserve to celebrate today. And, at the same time, we must stay focused on protecting and supporting one another through the continued threats against our community at federal, state, and local levels. 90% of LGBTQ+ youth said recent politics negatively impacted their mental health. As queer and transgender young people continue to face real, everyday challenges, The Trevor Project remains committed to supporting them 24/7. Our work to create a brighter future for LGBTQ+ youth is a marathon, not a sprint. Let’s celebrate today’s victory, and vow to keep showing up, speaking out, and fighting for the world we deserve. #SupremeCourt

  • Today, on Intersex Day of Solidarity, we honor the health, dignity, and freedom of Intersex folks everywhere. 💛💜 Intersex young people deserve to grow up in a world where their bodies are respected, their autonomy is protected, and their stories are celebrated, not silenced. Showing up in solidarity means listening to intersex voices, uplifting their leadership within and outside of the LGBTQIA+ community, and advocating for policies and care that affirm intersex existence. The Trevor Project stands with intersex LGBTQIA+ young people, today and every day.

LGBTQ+ young people are showing up: in their schools, communities, and online, to fight for their rights, safety, and futures. Our latest research finds that civic engagement isn’t a trend for LGBTQ+ youth. It’s a lifeline. ➡️ 60% of LGBTQ+ young people felt motivated to take political action in the last year. ➡️ 44% reported at least one LGBTQ+-related political concern. Trans and nonbinary young people are leading with even greater urgency: ➡️ 63% felt motivated to take civic action (vs 55% of cisgender peers) ➡️ 50% had an LGBTQ+-related political concern (vs 35%) But motivation comes with a cost. Both political drive and LGBTQ+-related political concerns are associated with higher rates of anxiety and depression among LGBTQ+ young people. Because living through political debate about your identity shouldn’t be part of growing up. LGBTQ+ young people (especially trans and nonbinary youth) are rising to meet this moment with courage. They deserve a world where fighting for your existence isn’t required to feel safe, respected, and free. At The Trevor Project, we’re here to support and uplift the young people leading us toward a more just future. 🧡 Read our November Research Brief: https://lnkd.in/eSyFYdkr Because data makes a difference.

  • Today on Intersex Awareness Day, we’re celebrating intersex folks everywhere 💛💜 Being intersex is a natural part of human diversity. Yet, many intersex young people face stigma and threats of conversion therapy practices simply for existing as they are. Our research found that intersex LGBTQIA+ young people often face higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide risk — but intersex-inclusive care, supportive environments, and community can make a life-saving difference. Intersex rights are human rights: to health, dignity, and freedom. Learn more from intersex-led advocates like InterACT (interact_adv on Instagram) 💛💜
