The U.S. Department of Education has proposed a definition of a "professional degree" program that excludes audiology and speech-language pathology. ASHA has been advocating for our professions to be included as professional degrees to ensure access to higher loan limits since July. Join us in advocacy and tell your members of Congress how valuable your profession is! Learn more: https://at.asha.org/QK

ASHA’s 2025 Convention kicked off with an Opening General Session featuring inspirational words from ASHA Board President 2025 Bernadette Mayfield-Clarke, your Convention co-chairs, and legendary Olympic gymnast Dominique Dawes. Dominique shared about her involvement with the Arthur M. Blank Center for Stuttering Education and Research and her own experience overcoming a communication challenge. She told members, “You all are changing lives. You’re empowering families. You’re empowering communities.” Watch the replay and stream live events from Convention: https://lnkd.in/ehpUWuy5

Please join us in thanking our hundreds of Hill Day advocates for everything they did yesterday! They spoke up and made their voices heard in meetings with their legislators, discussing the wide variety of issues Congress can help audiologists, SLPs, assistants, and the folks you serve with. After convention, we will share more information about the day. In the meantime, please support your colleagues' efforts by visiting https://at.asha.org/QH to send your legislators letters on the same topics. Thank you, ASHA advocates!

ASHA is thrilled to announce its newest collaboration with the Planet Word Museum in Washington, DC: A new exhibit focused on stuttering. In addition to providing information about what stuttering is, what causes it, and how SLPs can help, the exhibit features a wide variety of people who stutter of all different ages — sharing their viewpoints and experiences. The exhibit also provides simple, supportive steps that everyone can take when interacting with people who stutter. If you’re in town for the ASHA Convention (or coming to Washington, DC, at another time), be sure to check it out! The exhibit is located in the Words Matter Gallery of the museum. A 2025 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award winner, Planet Word is the only museum in the country dedicated to renewing and inspiring a love of words and language.
This visitor-recorded video reflects on the personal impact of stuttering. Stuttering, a break in the flow of speech, can affect many aspects of someone’s life, from the way they speak to their confidence and relationships. It’s the topic of our newest addition to the museum: an interactive touchscreen display in the Words Matter gallery. Developed in collaboration with The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the interactive explores stuttering from many angles: what it is, how it affects people, where it comes from, and how you can be a good communication partner to someone who stutters. You’ll hear directly from people who stutter — from actor Emily Blunt to speech-language pathologists and young people — about their experiences and what they want people to know about stuttering. Check it out the next time you visit Planet Word!
