  • It's the start of Colorado Gives Day, the state's largest giving movement! Here at the Action Center, we are ready to support our neighbors in need. Currently, SNAP benefits are frozen for up to 600,000 Coloradans, including 38,000 individuals in Jefferson County. Coupled with recent cuts to food assistance, stricter eligibility requirements, reduced food supply, and the ongoing threat of a government shutdown, our community is facing a deepening hunger crisis. This is when community support matters most. Our goal for Colorado Gives Day is to raise $300,000 by the December 9 deadline—28% more than last year—to keep pace with rising costs, reduced food donations, and increasing demand. Your support is crucial to this effort. Donations help fill our shelves and sustain the programs that families rely on during their most challenging times. Make your gift today and help us meet the moment for our neighbors in need. Learn more and donate: https://bit.ly/46QA5RE

  • 🚨 For the first time ever, 38,000 families in Jefferson County will not receive their monthly Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. This isn't a possibility—it's happening right now. As of today, November 1, benefits are frozen, resulting in a crisis more severe than anything we've faced in years, including during the COVID-19 pandemic or previous government shutdowns. Even if the freeze is lifted on Monday, at best, there will be significant delays for families who depend on these payments. The impact is immediate. At the Action Center, we opened 50 additional slots a day for food assistance in anticipation of this situation, and they filled within minutes. We're even receiving calls and requests from many individuals who have never visited a food bank before. In October, Sunny Garcia, our Immediate Needs Program Manager, was featured in a story on Denver7 (KMGH-TV) as we prepared for this moment. She discussed what SNAP benefits provide for families, and how devastating these cuts will be, especially during the holiday season. "It's a really powerful thing for them to be able to walk into this beautiful Safeway and shop for things that are really meaningful to them for their holiday meal... it could be diapers, it could be formula. There are so many things that families need." Watch the full story here: https://bit.ly/4ohGDl1 We are proud to be able to offer individuals the essential food and nutrition services that they will no longer receive through programs like SNAP. However, with critical food supply shortages, we can’t do this alone. The need has never been greater. Here's how you can help: If you have the means, our community needs your support right now. Your contributions fill critical gaps in assistance when government programs fall short. Please consider becoming a monthly donor. Any amount makes a difference. • We are about to witness an unprecedented food security crisis in our community. For the first time ever, payments from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be frozen. 38,000 people in Jefferson County alone will not receive the support they need to keep their families fed in November. That's about $245 per person for the month of November—lost. 🚨 These aren’t just numbers; these are our neighbors. They are children, elderly neighbors on fixed incomes, people with disabilities, and working families already stretched thin. SNAP isn't a luxury. It's what families and individuals in crisis rely on to put food on the table. ⚠️ At the Action Center, we're bracing for a surge in demand unlike anything we've seen in years. At the same time, our traditional food sources have been hit with cuts, leaving us with fewer resources right when demand is about to skyrocket. ❤️ This is where YOU come in. We're doing everything we can to meet this need, but we can't do it alone. The scale of what's coming is bigger than our current resources can handle. If you've ever considered supporting the Action Center but haven't taken that step, this is the moment. The Denver metro area needs us. Your neighbors need us. Become a monthly financial supporter, so we can plan ahead, secure food supplies, and stabilize the future for every person who walks through our doors during this crisis and beyond. Here's how you can get involved: Make a financial donation to help us close the gap: https://bit.ly/4h4kMJm Donate food items directly at the Action Center: https://bit.ly/3LdxriS Sign up to volunteer in our food market: https://bit.ly/4jNeUaa
