Explore a list of words and titles across artistic disciplines that have been banned in the United States as a result of censorship from various groups and government entities. We've also curated a selection of films, books, and plays, which highlight the dangers of fascist regimes. We encourage you to reflect on these lists and question the motives of censuring words, titles, and the voices of America. Resources here: https://lnkd.in/eZ9PQiV5

How can dance serve as both art and activism? “The Fall of Freedom” project asks—and inspires—just that. Launching nationwide in November, the Fall of Freedom project brings together artists, audiences, and institutions to use contemporary dance as a platform for civil rights, resilience, and creative resistance. Through bold performances, artist testimonials, and educational resources, this initiative demonstrates how movement and advocacy unite to spark urgent conversations—and real action—for justice and belonging. Arts marketers should take note: when purpose-driven storytelling meets immersive programming, it doesn’t just engage audiences—it builds communities united by shared values. Ready to weave advocacy into your arts programming? Sweibel Arts helps you amplify your mission through inspired partnerships and strategic storytelling. For years, ballet’s mantra was “grit your teeth and get through it.” Now, more dancers and companies are breaking that silence—embracing mental health support with transformative results. Top institutions like New York City Ballet and San Francisco Ballet are investing in counseling, therapy, and wellness programs, recognizing that emotional health is key to both artistry and longevity. Recent studies show roughly one in five dancers experiences moderate symptoms of depression, anxiety, or eating disorders—issues often fueled by perfectionism, competition, and lingering stigma around asking for help. Integrating #MentalHealth resources—from workshops to on-site therapists—is beginning to reshape the field, fostering resilience and retention. At Sweibel Arts, we help performing arts organizations make wellness a cornerstone of culture and communication. Ready to make mental health a true priority? Let’s talk about real, sustainable support for your artists and staff. Read more: https://lnkd.in/e8YtmHW4

Dance nonprofits face a funding reckoning in 2025. Legacy funders like Mellon, Doris Duke, and Ford are shifting focus, and federal grants—including some NEA awards—are increasingly uncertain. The old “three-legged stool” of public, private, and earned income is wobbling. Sustainability now depends on creative adaptation: diversifying revenue streams, nurturing long-term donor relationships, and advocating for consistent community support—like Utah’s innovative ZAP sales tax. Foundations are also funding individual artists more directly and calling for models that prioritize collaboration, equity, and innovation. Sweibel Arts partners with dance and performing arts groups to future-proof funding through modern strategies and creative partnerships. Concerned about funding instability? Let’s strategize new pathways for resilience and sustainable growth. Read more: https://lnkd.in/e6sbcCp2

Is price really what’s keeping people away from #ballet, #opera, or #symphony performances? Groundbreaking new research says otherwise: social connections and education are even more powerful barriers than dollars. A UC San Diego study of 7,500 U.S. and UK participants found education, vocabulary, and—most critically—social networks matter far more than income when it comes to “highbrow” cultural attendance. In the UK, knowledge and cultural literacy lead the way; in the U.S., it’s community connections. The lesson for arts organizations: affordable tickets are helpful, but deep inclusion requires outreach, mentorship, and education to help new audiences feel like they truly belong. Sweibel Arts partners with performing arts groups to create welcoming spaces and strategic outreach—making culture accessible for all. Want actionable steps to grow your audience beyond price? Let’s talk about real inclusion. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eEqnmpG3
