Suicide is a complex problem that disproportionately impacts the military community. Stop Soldier Suicide is the only national nonprofit focused solely on solving the issue of suicide among U.S. veterans and service members. Our team is laser-focused on research and care that is specific to reducing veteran and service member suicide. Our vision is a nation where veterans and service members have no greater risk for suicide than any other American. We have an aggressive goal to reduce the military suicide rate by 40% no later than 2030.

  • Tomorrow is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day — a day to pause, reflect, and consider how we will hold space for those who have endured this profound loss. It’s a time to recognize their stories, their strength, and the loved ones they carry with them. We are grateful to share Elizabeth "EB" Nesbitt's story and the perspective it offers through her lived experience. When EB lost her husband, Donnie, to suicide, she faced the unthinkable while raising their young son, Patrick. Through honesty, love, and strength, she chose to speak truth — not shame — into their story. Today, EB’s courage reminds us that healing often begins when we find our voices. Her openness is helping break the silence around suicide loss and is inspiring others to do the same.⠀ We stand alongside her — and every survivor — as we forge ahead in our life-saving mission. • From the I Got Your 6 IPA brewed by a Marine Veteran at Manor Hill Brewing, to the stars and stripes crafted by Allegiance Flag Supply — our community is proving that creativity + compassion can save lives. Swims, bike rides, chili cook offs, and even pickleball tournaments — every event helps fund free, confidential support for veterans and service members across the country. 🇺🇸 Where there’s a will, there’s a way — and our supporters keep showing us how it’s done. 💪 Read more about their creativity & impact here ▶️ https://bit.ly/4r7Wzbe #StopSoldierSuicide #IGotYour6 #VeteranSupport #CommunityImpact

  • Today, we honor those who’ve served. 🇺🇸 Our Veterans Day Tribute Wall is filled with stories shared by husbands and wives, parents and children, brothers and sisters in arms — each one a reflection of love, loss, and pride that endures. These tributes remind us that honoring our veterans isn’t about one day of recognition, but a shared commitment to remember their courage and carry their impact forward. Read their stories. Share the wall. Keep their legacy alive. https://bit.ly/43riJv4 #VeteransDay #StopSoldierSuicide #HonorTheirService #RememberHonorAdvance

  • 🇺🇲 To all who’ve served — thank you. At Stop Soldier Suicide, we’re fortunate to meet veterans not only through their service records, but through their stories, their resilience, and their determination to keep moving forward — even in the face of immense challenges. Veterans Day is a reminder of the responsibility we carry every day: to ensure that those who served are supported long after their military service ends. Honoring veterans means more than sharing gratitude — it means advancing the work that protects their well-being and ensures no one faces their most difficult moments alone. Together, we will continue working toward a future where every veteran feels seen, supported, and never without hope. #VeteransDay #AdvancingTogether #SupportOurVeterans

  • Last week, members of our Stop Soldier Suicide team had the honor of attending the Virginia CIT Coalition Conference, standing alongside those who serve on the front lines of mental and behavioral health support within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia is among the top 10 states where veterans are dying by suicide, underscoring just how critical this work is. Front line responders are an essential part of the network that ensures our military community gets the help they need — when they need it most. We were especially proud that Kirsten Finn, LISW-CP led a well-attended breakout session that equipped attendees with practical tools for better supporting veterans in crisis. She also shared about ROGER Wellness Service, our free, confidential suicide-specific care for veterans and service members. We’re deeply grateful for the opportunity to connect, share, and learn from the dedicated professionals and advocates who are working every day to ensure individuals in crisis receive the compassion and care they deserve. James Chapman thank you for your leadership over the VA CIT Coalition and for making our organization feel valued at this event! R. Keith, Caitlyn, and Kirsten - thank you for representing us! Together, we’re building stronger systems of support — and saving lives, one connection at a time. #CrisisIntervention #MentalHealthAwareness #VeteranSupport #VACIT #Virginia

  • Through every chapter of his journey—from serving alongside his Army brothers and sisters to leading teams in the business world — Cal Riley has embodied leadership, resilience, and perseverance. After his service, Cal built a career in business leadership and entrepreneurship, guiding organizations to clarify, simplify, and achieve their visions. But his mission to serve others never stopped—it simply took a new form. As a suicide loss survivor, Cal was faced with a decision: what would he do with the tremendous grief of losing his brother? His answer was to transform that pain into purpose. Through his book, Entrepreneurial Compassion, Cal shares his story to honor his brother’s memory and to help prevent future losses to suicide. He is also donating all profits from the sale of his book to our organization to help fund our life-saving care for veterans and service members. His story is a reminder that compassion, connection, and purpose can save lives—and that together, we can build a future where fewer veterans and civilians are lost to suicide.
