Many of our schools celebrated World Kindness Day last week and used the opportunity to perform acts of kindness for their peers, staff, and community. Young students read books about kindness and learned how to be a good friend, while older students wrote notes to share with their classmates and teachers to express their appreciation and encouragement. We're guiding students to become positive contributors to their world and spreading kindness one act at a time. #WorldKindnessDay #OneActofKindness #BeKind

Veteran's Day is an opportunity for our schools to honor those who have served and continue to serve our country through their selfless sacrifice and service. Our schools learned from veterans through presentations and ceremonies, and honored veterans through activities including writing cards and letters. Highlights include: Brighton School welcomed local veterans who spoke with students about their service and experiences--giving them a meaningful glimpse into the importance of courage, commitment, and sacrifice. As a school, they also participated in the A Million Thanks project, with every student writing a personal letter of appreciation to a veteran. Wood Acres School Veteran's Day events also included guest veteran speakers, writing letters to veterans, and participating in the annual campus wide philanthropy project for the troops. First grade students led the amazing annual collection of candy to send to Project Mail Call to provide candy for active-duty military personnel stationed overseas. Stratford School Los Gatos Belgatos Park students and staff came together to honor those who have served our country through sharing heartfelt video messages, and The Rhoades School held a special ceremony that also featured a moving violin performance from one of our very own Rhoades family members--and a proud veteran. Park Maitland School campuses also honored veterans through a celebration and learning from those who have served and continue to serve. Even our young learners at Chesterbrook Academy West Chester's preschool thanked veterans through creating beautiful, hand-made cards. Prior to Veteran's Day, high school students from BASIS Independent Schools Silicon Valley traveled to Washington, D.C. where they visited Arlington National Cemetery and The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This Veteran's Day we honor and thank the men and women who have served and continue to serve for their tireless commitment to protecting our country. We are thankful for your service! #VeteransDay #Education #ThankaVeteran #ProjectMailCall #AMillionThanksProject

Several schools around our network are celebrating milestone anniversaries this year, including Montessori Academy Parkcenter in Boise, ID! The recent 25th Anniversary celebration was filled with the joy that permeates our Montessori learning communities, and brought together current and former families, staff, and friends who have been part of the school's story through the years. Together, shared memories and milestones were celebrated, and the community that makes Montessori Academy so special. We are proud of the amazing work being done to advance excellence in Montessori education at this school. Here’s to 25 years of connection—and the many more ahead! #Montessori #25thAnniversary #Milestone #Celebration

Dia de los Muertos has been a fantastic opportunity for our schools to explore this beautiful Mexican tradition that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed away. Schools have talked about the meaning behind the holiday, its symbols, and the ways people celebrate life and memory. To bring what they learned to life, students participated in a wide range of activities, such as making their own colorful paper maché and foil calaveras (skulls), and enjoying cultural performances and displays. It has been an amazing school year so far for our students as they increase their cultural and global knowledge and awareness! #DiadelosMuertos #MulticulturalEducation #Traditions

Several schools across our network took advantage of Election Day to teach students about civic engagement, voting, and how elections work. Primary students at BASIS Independent Schools Manhattan voted in a highly contested race between fruit, crackers, and cookies for best snack (cookies narrowly won over fruit), while their upper school students practiced civic responsibility by considering platforms presented during recent Student Council debates. Kindergarten and Pre-K students at Brighton School got a hands-on lesson in democracy and learned how voting works. Kindergarten classes read "Duck for President" and voted between Duck and Farmer Brown (Duck won by a landslide!), while Pre-K held their own election--voting for their favorite cookie after a taste test. Of course every proud wore their "I Voted" stickers to celebrate! Stratford School Los Gatos welcomed Rob Moore, Vice Mayor of Los Gatos, on student council election day to speak to students about the importance of exercising their right to vote, and shared his enthusiasm for seeing so many young leaders passionate about public service and civic engagement. Bringing real world concepts into the classroom engages students of all ages with hands on activities that bring learning to life, whether they are almost old enough to vote in real elections, or participating in important elections about snacks! #ElectionDay #Voting #CivicEngagement #Education

The ECE Principals across our network are passionate and caring, guiding their school community in caring for our youngest learners. Our next National Principals' Month feature is Vanessa Milroy, Principal at Discovery Isle Preschool in Carlsbad! Vanessa started her journey at Discovery Isle in 2002 as an assistant teacher, and has been a valued school leader for many years. Her advice for teachers who are thinking about a leadership role? "Be open to learning and take every opportunity that comes your way. Leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about listening, guiding, and creating a space where others feel supported and empowered." #NationalPrincipalsMonth #EarlyChildhoodEducation #Preschool
