🚧 Seasonal Changes Mean Staying Alert in Work Zones As the seasons change, so do driving conditions, and that means staying alert is more important than ever. Rain, fog, and early sunsets can reduce visibility, while cold mornings can bring slick roads and slower reactions. Add in changing traffic patterns and active work zones, and the need for caution is clear. 👉 Slow down. Stay alert. Expect the unexpected. Whether it’s a lane shift, new detour, or crew at work just beyond the cones, every second of attention counts. Our crews are out there improving the roads and bridges we all rely on, let’s do our part to make sure everyone gets home safely. #WorkZoneSafety #SafeAndAccidentFree #ConstructionThatCares

#ThrowbackThursday: Blasting Back to 1993 Let’s rewind to 1993, when Joseph B. Fay Company was called on by Princeton University for a one-of-a-kind challenge, the complete removal of a former nuclear accelerator and six surrounding structures at the Forrestal Campus, a hub for research in aerospace, physics, and other advanced sciences. That meant removing nearly 50,000 cubic yards of reinforced concrete, right in the center of campus, without disrupting the daily life of students and faculty. ⏱️ The catch? Work started just two weeks after accepting the bid. 💨 The concern? Noise and dust. 💪 The solution? A mix of controlled explosive demolition and traditional excavation, followed by excavators with hydraulic hammers to complete the work safely and efficiently. When the dust (literally) settled, Fay left behind a neatly graded site, and some very impressed Princeton officials who later reached out to thank the team for keeping noise and dust well within tolerable limits. Innovation, precision, and teamwork, that’s how Fay’s history is built. #ThrowbackThursday #HistoryIsBuiltHere #DemolitionDoneRight #PeopleProjectPurpose Photo Source: https://lnkd.in/exaMfzab

🚧Investing in future builders 🏗️ As part of our ongoing partnership with The Challenge Program, Inc to promote career opportunities in the construction trades, we invited students and teachers from Jeff Tech vocational-technical high school near the I-80 North Fork Bridge project, to visit the jobsite for an up-close look at how our trades people are building new interstate bridges for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). Students walked the construction site with Fay construction team members ranging from foremen and safety coordinators to engineers, hearing firsthand about the wealth of opportunities within our industry. Experiencing active construction operations up close helped connect their classroom training to the real-world projects that shape our infrastructure and communities. 👷♂️ Our workforce development efforts go beyond recruitment. They’re about creating meaningful exposure, supporting local educational programs, and opening doors for the next generation of builders. ⭐Sometimes, the first step toward a future career is simply seeing it in action. #PeopleProjectPurpose #CareersInConstruction #WeBuiltThis

We love celebrating progress in action! 🚧 Our hardworking Fay crews recently reached a major milestone on the North Avenue Bridge in completing the first half of the bridge and shifting traffic onto the newly built section. This work is important because it’s part of removing height clearance obstructions for double-stack trains along CSX’s vital I-95 rail corridor between Baltimore and Philadelphia. The bridge is located adjacent to the Howard Street Tunnel that we recently completed ahead of schedule in a joint venture with Skanska. These and other infrastructure investments will help freight move more efficiently and enable more business for the Port of Baltimore. Using the progressive design build delivery method, we are replacing two of the bridge’s brick masonry arches with a modern single-span steel girder bridge. This enabled our construction team and designer WRA to develop innovative technical concepts to reduce the project cost, accelerate the schedule, and minimize the impact on CSX’s operations: ✅ Reduced maintenance of traffic from three phases to two by shifting traffic to one half of the bridge; ✅ Took 36” and 48” water mains crossing the structure out of service temporarily while continuing water supply with bypass piping; ✅ Modified plans to run the new water mains directly below the sidewalks to reduce construction time, cost, and scope while enabling more efficient future maintenance with sidewalk panels on the bridge deck; and ✅ Shifted one abutment location to shorten the bridge’s north side, which reduces the length of utilities and the amount of structural steel required for girders. These innovations and our progress are possible thanks to the flexibility and collaborative approach of the progressive design build process. Together with CSX and WRA, we’re delivering smarter, more efficient infrastructure for #Baltimore and beyond. 👉 Learn more about this project here: https://lnkd.in/e2FNDuyg #PeopleProjectPurpose #AlternativeDelivery, #ProgressiveDesignBuild

Recently, our foremen, superintendents, and field leaders came together for our 2025 Annual Foreman’s Conference. It was a great opportunity to reconnect, share experiences from the field, and stay aligned on the work ahead. We covered the topics that always matter most: safety, quality, and clear communication. These conversations help keep our teams aligned, strengthen leadership in the field, and ensure we continue delivering work we can all be proud of. Activities throughout the day included team-building exercises, like building the longest, strongest single-span bridge model. We’re proud of our Fay frontline leaders for the dedication and craftsmanship they bring to every project. #PeopleProjectPurpose #ConstructionThatCares

🚧 A feat of engineering and construction 🚧 That’s what Pennsylvania Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll called the I-376 Commercial Street Bridge Replacement and the innovation behind this first-of-its-kind sliding bridge project in western Pennsylvania during a recent press conference at the project site. The complex project is on track, with weekly steel girder deliveries being assembled and erected as the new superstructure continues to take shape. It’s impressive to watch this future connection on one of region’s main traffic arteries rise piece by piece through the expertise and commitment of our crews and partners. We’re proud to support Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) in delivering a safer, more efficient corridor that will strengthen neighborhood connections and improve daily travel for surrounding communities. Global experience, local focus, and a team building what’s next for this region. #HistoryIsBuiltHere #ConstructTomorrowToday #infrastructure #PennDOT
We invested $512M in infrastructure improvements this year in Allegheny, Beaver, and Lawrence counties. Yesterday, our Pittsburgh regional team celebrated the accomplishments of the 2025 construction season, which included: • 49 projects put out to bid. • Approximately 724 miles of paving and roadway maintenance. • 44 bridges repaired or replaced, including 13 in poor condition. • 42 slides repaired. This event was held near the I-376 Commercial Street Bridge replacement project, which next year will use innovative Accelerated Bridge Construction techniques to slide the new bridge onto the existing alignment of I-376 (Parkway East). This is one of the largest lateral slide projects performed in Pennsylvania. Learn more and see notable projects completed or near completion: https://lnkd.in/eN8mJtN8. 🚧How It’s Built: Earthwork & Grading 🌎 Before bridges and roads can rise, the land itself needs to take shape. That’s where earthwork and grading come in. Our crews excavate, move, compact, and level thousands of cubic yards of soil to create stable, precise surfaces for foundations, roadways, bridges, and more. Using GPS-guided equipment, survey data, and field verification, we make sure every inch meets design specifications. Behind what looks like “just moving dirt” is a blend of engineering and science, studying soil behavior, slope stability, drainage, and compaction to ensure long-term performance. Depending on the project’s size and conditions, earthwork can make up a big part of the overall cost. It’s a major effort that often runs day and night to keep things moving and meet critical deadlines. But precision isn’t the only priority; sustainability is too. 🌱 By reusing excavated materials, balancing cut and fill, and implementing erosion and sediment control plans, our teams minimize waste, reduce emissions, and protect surrounding waterways and communities. It may look like dirt, but it’s the foundation of everything we build.
