Today we honored federal employees who supported Reno-Tahoe International Airport during the federal government shutdown and continue to provide exceptional service every day. Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority President and CEO Daren Griffin, A.A.E. and City of Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve shared their gratitude during a thank-you lunch recognizing the essential work these employees do at RNO. We also thank our staff for their dedication, passengers for their patience and our community for its continued support. A special thank-you to The Children's Cabinet for helping provide food and essential items to federal workers, and Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority for additional assistance. We are grateful.

This week, Reno-Tahoe International Airport and the The Children's Cabinet delivered critical resources to employees affected by the federal government shutdown. We are grateful to the federal workers who continue to support our passengers and essential operations each day despite not receiving pay during the longest federal government shutdown in our nation’s history. Thank you to the Children’s Cabinet team and to our community for the support that makes this effort possible. Along with regular meal deliveries to essential employees of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), delivered items included nonperishable groceries, hygiene items and baby care supplies. If you are interested in continuing these support efforts, please consider joining the RTAA in keeping these local resources stocked. Today’s groundbreaking marks another step forward in the MoreRNO Infrastructure Program and the future of travel at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The new Ground Transportation Center will create a more convenient travel experience with rental cars, taxis, shuttles and rideshare services all in one centralized location. We’re proud to collaborate with our partners to bring this vision to life. To learn more about the four-story, 440,220-square-foot facility being built along Terminal Way, visit MoreRNO.com.
Milestone moment at Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO): Today we broke ground on the new Ground Transportation Center, which will include a Consolidated Rental Car Facility — a major step forward in RNO’s $1+ billion MoreRNO Infrastructure Program. Elected officials, community leaders, and representatives from the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA), the rental car industry, Conrac Solutions, Meridiam, and other project partners came together to celebrate this exciting development. Scheduled to open in 2028, the facility will enhance the passenger experience and modernize airport operations for years to come. “Today’s groundbreaking is a milestone not only for the RTAA and our rental car partners, but also for Conrac Solutions and Meridiam,” said Amy Barnes, Chief Development Officer at Conrac Solutions. “Through private financing and a progressive design-build approach, we incorporated stakeholder needs to deliver a nationally recognized project encompassing finance, design, build, operations, and long-term maintenance. This new facility will be energy-efficient and future-ready—supporting the Airport’s MoreRNO program and benefiting travelers and the broader community.” This project represents innovation in action—bringing together public and private partners to create sustainable, passenger-focused infrastructure for the future of travel in Northern Nevada. We’re coming together to support the federal employees who continue to work without pay to keep our airport safe and operational during the federal government shutdown. They may not be employed by RTAA, but they are an integral part of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport team. These employees provide essential services to passengers every day and we recognize the financial strain a shutdown can create. RTAA is making financial contributions to The Children's Cabinet and Food Bank of Northern Nevada to help ease this time for affected employees. We are asking community members who are also interested in supporting to donate to these organizations directly. To the federal employees impacted, we encourage you to take advantage of these trusted community resources. Both organizations offer respectful, confidential support tailored to you and your family’s needs. We know this period brings turbulence, and we’re committed to helping you navigate toward calmer skies. Learn more: https://ow.ly/R1Kt50X8LR4
