What’s so important about an uppercase? Uppercase is used in English to denote proper nouns, which include ethnicities and nationalities (ex: “German”, not “german”). Lowercase “native” is an adjective typically used to describe plants, animals, or objects that are “native” to a local region. Using uppercase “Native” to describe an Indigenous person is not only grammatically correct, but also acknowledges their identity—something especially important considering our long history of genocide and cultural erasure. To use inclusive, racially-aware language is to amplify our voices. ➡️ Educate your friends, family, and colleagues by sharing this post. #Native #Indigenous #NativeAmerican #NativeVoices #NativeHeritage #IndigenousHeritage #WeAreIndigenous #GenerationIndigenous
