"Perhaps no 20th-century band of artists has had as impactful a legacy as the Surrealists, a rangy, global group whose goal was nothing less than 'a revolution in consciousness,' says Matthew Affron, the curator of “Dreamworld: Surrealism at 100” at the Philadelphia Art Museum (open now through February). This knockout exhibition, the first of many must-see shows this season, is composed of roughly 200 paintings, films, and sculptures from stars like Joan Miró, Leonora Carrington, and Roberto Matta. The traveling exhibition began at the Centre Pompidou—fitting, as Surrealism was born in Paris—and Philadelphia is the fifth and final stop. Special to this iteration is a focus on the artists who arrived in North America after fleeing Nazism in Europe. With our world in turmoil once again, Surrealism’s radical imagination is a fitting antidote." Read more from Vouge: https://bit.ly/47EPs2u

"Brand X Editions worked with a range of artists to translate their work into limited-edition prints, produced by hand. 'I would start talking to the artist,' says Bob Blanton, Founder and Master Printer of Brand X Editions. 'We come up with an idea of what the artist really wants with the work.' They used creative techniques to achieve an artist's vision. 'We're not just trying to understand the words the artist is saying, but the feelings that he's trying to communicate behind the process,' he says." Discover the transformative art of Krishna Reddy, a pioneering Indian-born printmaker and key member of Paris’s legendary Atelier 17 workshop. Timed to mark the centenary of his birth, Krishna Reddy: The Movement of Life explores Reddy’s dazzling abstract images of seeds, flowers, insects, water, and the human form. Through his groundbreaking color viscosity printing technique, Reddy expanded the expressive possibilities of printmaking—capturing the cosmic energy that, in his philosophy, connects all living things. Celebrating the gift of 63 prints from the collection of Drs. Umesh and Sunanda Gaur to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the exhibition reveals how each of Reddy’s prints was both an artwork and an act of renewal—reborn anew with every impression. Krishna Reddy: The Movement of Life is on view through December 8. 📍 Korman Galleries 221–223

“Overall, this is probably one of my favorite projects of the year not only because of how well executed and thought out it is but for being able to adopt a visually verbose aesthetic that is not afraid to take a strong design stand that matches the art on display but does it with purpose and intention and without ever overshadowing it, all while infusing the museum with a much needed, new, distinct, and energetic identity that was sorely missing.” Read more from Brand New: https://bit.ly/4oCZDdq
