Last week, Oaklawn hosted a 2-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) for 28 staff members, equipping them to become trained caregivers ready to intervene and support individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts. The training was led by our certified Oaklawn trainers Ricky Mountsier, Robin Ebright Zehr, and Becky Zakowski. At Oaklawn, we are committed to fostering a supportive environment and empowering our team with skills to make a difference. If you or someone are experiencing suicidal thoughts, please dial 988 or our crisis hotline at 574-533-1234.

This event welcomes Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run-DMC, who will discuss his personal journey through depression, addiction, and recovery, and highlight how self-expression, music, and vulnerability contribute to emotional wellness. The program also includes a book signing for his memoir, Ten Ways Not to Commit Suicide, and a meet & greet session. Tickets are available to the public and free to students. We encourage those interested in mental health, emotional wellness, and community connection to learn more about this unique event. For more information and ticketing, visit https://lnkd.in/gVqiKbBR
