The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that personal bankruptcies are on the rise in Minnesota and that LSS Financial Counseling is working with households with “significantly higher” debt loads compared to the past few years, in part because interest rates have crept up, said Joanne Lundberg, LSS Financial Counseling supervisor.

Children's Home Society of Minnesota's Little Red Stocking campaign is back! Please consider a giving a gift this holiday season to help unite children with loving, nurturing caregivers through adoption.
Since 1909, the Little Red Stocking campaign has helped unite children with loving families and provide lifelong support to those touched by foster care and adoption. This season, every gift is matched dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000, meaning twice the support for children and families. Families like Krysten and Joe Foster’s remind us why this work matters. After three years of preparation, they traveled to India on Christmas morning to meet their daughter, Sophia. “She fell asleep in our arms shortly after we left the orphanage. It felt like she already knew she was safe and a part of our family.” Your generosity makes stories like this possible. Help more families experience this kind of love and make your gift today: www.littleredstocking.org

“If a Senior Companion volunteer visits an older adult for a few hours a week, it can mean the difference between staying in their home or not. That’s life-changing,” said Fred Snyder, program coordinator for LSS Companion Services. And for children and youth? “Our Foster Grandparent volunteers are in educational settings because they love kids. Every bit of research shows how impactful that support is.” Fred recently joined Kato Living on @KEYC TV to spotlight the powerful role volunteers play in our communities. Watch the interview: https://lnkd.in/dCW3C8hH A huge thanks to all our volunteers who bring connection, care and joy to those who need it most. You are making a difference every single day!

🚧 On October 14, we celebrated the start of construction on the newest LSS Center for Changing Lives in Saint Paul! As work begins, we are looking forward to opening this center in late 2026 to serve more than 1,100 individuals annually through a variety of services. The center will be an intentionally designed space that is welcoming to children, youth and families and expands the services available in the Frogtown-Rondo community. This center is part of our $100 million campaign, Empower What’s Possible, to expand and innovate social services across Minnesota. Learn more and join us at https://lnkd.in/gwEb2hUn.

“We’re seeking to get youth who are experiencing homelessness a permanent address, work, job skills, behavioral health counseling if that’s what they need, and get them on a trajectory of being self-sufficient,” said Patrick Thueson, President of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, in an interview with Finance & Commerce about the construction kickoff of a new Center for Changing Lives and announcement of the Empower What’s Possible campaign last week. LSS’ newest Center for Changing Lives will bring services to the Frogtown-Rondo neighborhood of Saint Paul to address issues such as housing, behavioral health, early childhood education, community connections and more.
Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is renovating a historic Frogtown building into housing and services for youth and families, opening in 2026.
