We've done it for the second time in a row! During a recent visit to Lovelace Medical Center, our Pet Therapy volunteers brought comfort, connection, and a few joyful surprises. As the therapy dogs made their rounds, they met a group of Level 3 nursing students who lit up with curiosity and laughter. For many, it was their first glimpse into how pet therapy supports healing in real, meaningful ways. Later, the team was invited to visit a patient facing a difficult diagnosis. The moment the dogs entered the room, her spirit lifted — even pausing a phone call to say, “I’ll call you back later — I’m busy.” What followed was a moment of shared tears, gentle laughter, and quiet connection that reminded everyone why compassionate care matters. These moments happen every week thanks to our incredible Pet Therapy volunteers. Their presence reminds us that healing isn’t always found in medicine — sometimes, it’s found in the unconditional love of a furry friend.

At Lovelace, we don’t just care for our community — we invest in the people who care for it. Samantha’s story is a powerful example of what’s possible when dedication meets opportunity. Starting as a patient care tech, she grew into an ICU nurse, house supervisor, and now serves as a nursing director. Her 10-year journey reflects the supportive culture and leadership development that define our organization. If you're a registered nurse looking to make an impact in critical care — and grow in a place that champions your future — we’d love to connect.
